A father assembled a baby playpen, put his desk and three monitors inside it, and sat down to work while the toddler stayed outside. The Chinese comment section did not congratulate him. It ran the numbers on what he had actually just done — to the house, to his ears, and to the one cable still running out between the bars.
What happened
A short video, reposted onto Douyin, shows a home office. The desk has three monitors, two of them full of code. Around the desk stands a white plastic playpen — the kind sold to keep toddlers away from stairs and power sockets. The father is inside it. The toddler is outside it, holding the mesh, watching.

100K+ likes and 1,248 comments. What follows is not applause. Chinese comment sections are, above all, an auditing service — and this one went straight to the flaw in the design.
What they’re saying
The most-liked comment, by a very wide margin, needs one second to land and then does not let go:

Seven hundred and fifty people upvoted a point-set topology joke. It is also exactly right: he did not close off the child. He closed off himself, which by definition opens everything else.

Every one of these comments is admiring the hack and, in the same breath, naming its cost. That is the particular pleasure of a Chinese comment section: nobody argues with the premise, everybody extends it until it breaks. The gate works. The gate has always worked. What the thread noticed, over about three days, is that a gate does not reduce the amount of chaos in a room — it only decides which side of the mesh you would like to be standing on when it arrives.
Dad chose focus mode. The baby chose airplane mode.
